What is LyroType?
LyroType is a macro for DaVinci Resolve that animates text character by character — like a typewriter, but built for the edit. It includes optional keyboard typing sounds and a slider to set your writing speed so you can be done in seconds.
What do I need to run it?
DaVinci Resolve 18.6 or later (Studio version*), running on macOS — Windows version coming soon. LyroType is distributed as a .drfx file — no plugins or additional software required.
*Studio version is required for full usability. The Free version of Resolve does not allow scripts to place audio on the timeline. All other functionality works on the Free version — upgrade to Studio and audio generation is ready immediately.
How do I install LyroType?
Download the .drfx file from your purchase confirmation. Double-click it — Resolve will install it automatically.
The keyboard sound samples install separately. A one-click installer is included in your download — run it once and the samples will be in the right place.
How do I apply it to a title or clip?
In the Effects panel, open Titles → Lyro → LyroType and drag it onto your Edit page timeline, just like a Text+ clip. Set your text and options in the Inspector on the right.
How do I control the typing speed?
In the LyroType Inspector, adjust the Typing Speed slider. Lower values produce a slower, more deliberate type-out; higher values speed it up.
Can I save my own presets?
Not yet — but watch this space. We want to get LyroType into your hands and hear how you're using it before we design the preset system. Keep an eye on the vote board for progress.
Can I use LyroType with custom fonts?
LyroType works with any font installed on your system. Set your font in the Style section of the LyroType Inspector. Each sound pack ships with its own default font — keep it or swap it out, your call.
How do I turn keyboard sounds on or off?
Keyboard sounds are placed on your timeline when you press the Generate button. If you don't want audio, simply skip that step — or delete the audio track after generating.
How do I adjust the sound volume?
Adjust the volume on the LyroType audio track using the Mixer panel. If you can't see it, click Mixer in the top-right of the Edit page to toggle it on.
Why isn't audio playing on export?
A few things to check: make sure Export Audio is enabled in your Deliver page settings, confirm the LyroType audio track isn't muted and no other track is soloed, and make sure you've actually pressed Generate with the playhead over the clip before rendering.
Do I need special export settings?
No. LyroType renders like any other audio track. Use your usual Deliver page settings — no special configuration required.
What timeline frame rate works best?
LyroType places audio as accurately as the timeline allows at any frame rate. On high-framerate timelines, there's occasionally a hair of offset between a character appearing and its sound — this follows standard sound design practice and won't be noticeable in a finished piece. We've put the timing through its paces across 24, 25, 29.97, and 60fps and the timing holds on all of them.
Where is my licence key?
Your licence key is in your purchase confirmation email. If you can't find it, log into your Payhip account and check your purchases — the key is listed there.
Can I use LyroType on more than one machine?
Your licence covers up to 2 activations. To move to a new machine, visit lyrotools.com/my-licence — enter your key and deactivate the old machine yourself. If you've hit your deactivation limit or need help, chat with us below.
What happens if I reinstall DaVinci Resolve?
Reinstalling Resolve doesn't use an activation. Simply reinstall the .drfx file and re-enter your key — you're good to go.
